Starting Quest Talk:

You asked me why I was imprisoned here, and now the time has come to tell you my story. You remember how I told you I was saved by Fuwa Lord Tathagata and became his servant, yes? There are many mortals who ask for Lord Tathagata's help, though they often refer to him as "the Merciful Buddha". Although my power is not nearly as great as his, I can hear some of their prayers.
- Go on.
Although Lord Tathagata is kindhearted, he can't answer every prayer or change people's fates. However, I couldn't just watch them suffer. If everyone used fate as an excuse, nothing would ever get done!
- That sounds reasonable.
At that time, ordinary deities could still visit the mortal world as they pleased. So I went to the mortal world secretly to help people, without considering the consequences.
- What possible consequences could there be for helping people?
That's exactly how I felt back then. I didn't think what I was doing could cause any real problems.
- It sounds like you did what you thought was right.
Even a deity cannot see the connections that exist between all things. The web of fate is vast beyond all comprehension.
- What did you do?
It was all my fault. I saved one man who was destitute and dying of illness...
- Just one man? Was it that serious?
He was meant to die, and his spirit was fated to become a great deity. Although I answered his prayers, I robbed him of his destiny.
- What?
That man got married and lived to the ripe old age of seventy. He continued through the cycle of death and rebirth until, eight hundred years ago, he brought great destruction to the human world.
- Who was this man?
He was Elder Blackheart, the first owner of the Sinister Orb.
- Him? To think he had a chance at enlightenment...
He was meant to suffer and learn from his suffering. If I hadn't saved him, his death would have brought him enlightenment and he would have become a deity. But I stopped him because I thought I knew what was good for him.
- So are you saying people shouldn't do what they think is right?
You need to find the answer to that yourself. Perhaps it would help you to challenge some of the beasts here. The Gnostic Cranes in particular are keepers of many secrets. You may gain some insight from them.
