The Loyal Envoy was an imperial official that was ordered to act as an ambassador to the Alliance. The Alliance, however, decided to send a blunt message to the Emperor. They imprisoned the Envoy and refused to release him until he pledged loyalty to the Alliance. He refused, and they withheld water and food from him until, frustrated, they tried to force his hand to sign a declaration of loyalty. The enfeebled Envoy somehow managed to rip a sword from one of his captors and tried to kill himself rather than let them have what they wanted. He was too weak to do so, however, and the Alliance ruler ordered the doctors to restore his health.

The Envoy's actions impressed the Alliance ruler, who ordered him to be released from imprisonment. However, this did not mean he was free. He was exiled to the northern reaches of the Alliance and informed that he would not be allowed to return home unless he resigned from his official imperial position. He still refused, and lived there for years until the ruler, who could not allow such a man waste away in exile, sent him back home in a manner usually reserved for royalty. The Emperor did not forget the Envoy's loyalty, and he became a valued advisor.
