Using the shortcut keys will help you greatly during combat. Simply place your skills on the bar on the bottom of the screen that is labeled with the numbers 1 through 0, and when you press the corresponding key on your keyboard, the skill will be used. You can also place items like potions onto these slots, and they will work the same way.

If you click on the arrows to the right of your main skill bar, you can expand it to have up to three additional bars. The second bar uses the F1 through F8 keys, but the remaining slots do not have corresponding keys and must be clicked with the mouse to be used.
